The Premier Soccer League has announced that the 2016/17 Absa Premiership season will kick-off in three weeks’ time on a Tuesday night, 23 August 2016.
14 of the 16 Absa Premiership clubs will be in action on Tuesday and Wednesday night as domestic top flight football returns. This is because defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns will be on CAF Champions League duty.

Day one of the 2016/17 season will see last season’s Absa Premiership runners-up, Bidvest Wits host Kaizer Chiefs at the Bidvest Stadium. On the same night, newly promoted outfit, Baroka FC will be at home to Ajax Cape Town at the (new) Peter Mokaba. Cape Town City FC will make their debut at their new home when they host Polokwane City at the Cape Town Stadium.

Chippa United, who enjoyed a strong finish in the Absa Premiership last season, will be at home against Free State Stars at the Nelson Mandela Stadium.

On Wednesday, Maritzburg United, who narrowly escaped relegation on that last dramatic day of the Absa Premiership, will travel to the Free State to play Bloemfontein Celtic at the Dr Molemela Stadium. Platinum Stars will be at home to SuperSport United at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium. Orlando Pirates will host Lamontville Golden Arrows at the Orlando Stadium.
